Community Guidelines

Please read these guidelines before making your first post to ensure that you’re contributing to a safe space for everyone.

The HAVEN Community is a supportive and respectful space for individuals to come together to share, validate and learn from one another’s experiences. We have a zero-tolerance policy for hateful, abusive, slanderous, defamatory, violent and/or discriminatory comments, threats, harassment, or cyberbullying.

Please avoid things like:

  • Name-calling
  • Attacks that are directed against a person rather than a response to the content that they are posting
  • Race, gender, or sexual orientation-based stereotypes, comments, and jokes
  • Anything obscene or sexually explicit

The HAVEN Community Team will remove or redact any comments that violate our zero-tolerance policy, and the user’s account may be subject to suspension. Moderators have the final say on whether a comment made in the HAVEN Community meets community guidelines.

We are proud to work with a diverse group of homeowners and HVAC professionals; building an inclusive space is a top priority for us. We invite you to be a part of this mission in creating a Community where everyone feels welcome and safe.

That being said, the rest of these guidelines are not hard and fast rules - merely tips on how to participate in conversations. Help us make the HAVEN Community a great place to share skills, knowledge, and interests!

Tips on Participating in Discussions

  1. Always be civil and kind - Don’t post anything that a reasonable person would consider offensive, abusive, or hate speech. If you are unsure if the comment you want to make could be considered any of these things, perhaps it’s best not to post it.

  2. Be agreeable, even when you disagree - We all come to the table with different experiences and perspectives. It’s healthy to talk about differing views and learn more from each other. However, it can be easy for contradiction to turn into conflict (which we want to avoid!). Remember to criticize ideas and not people. Be sure to provide reasoned counter-arguments that contribute to the conversation.

  3. Don’t be afraid to post - No matter what level of expertise you may have with indoor air quality (IAQ) or heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), your experiences, thoughts, and questions are valuable and can help many others feel validated and supported.

  4. Take a look at existing posts prior to posting - Keep the forum organized by browsing existing topics before starting your own - you may find that the conversation you are looking for is already happening.

  5. Flag problems that you see - If you see a comment or topic that is offensive or harmful, flag it for the Moderators to review. Try not to engage or escalate the situation.

  6. Give credit where credit is due - If you are sharing something from another source, please make sure to cite the original creator. Please refrain from posting anything digital that belongs to someone else without permission.

A Note on Security and Safety

Your comments in the forums are visible to others; therefore, please be mindful of what you are posting. We respect your privacy and the privacy of others in your life; the HAVEN Community Team reserves the right to remove or redact any comments that reveal sensitive personal information that can lead to harm. This may include but is not limited to mailing addresses and credit card information.

We are extremely concerned with the safety of all our members. Comments that provide false, misleading, or dangerous information will be removed at our Moderators’ discretion. Disrespectful and inappropriate comments will be reviewed and subject to removal or redaction at the moderator’s discretion. Comments that are considered to be or encourage illegal actions will be removed.
